Department of Food Technology and Nutritional Science
MBSTU has been a leader in Science and Technology education for more than 25 years, since 1999. Whether for practicing professionals, or graduate and undergraduate students, MBSTU builds educational programs that prepare its students to make a difference in the world. Our innovative education and cutting-edge research is leading up its standing in the educational spirit day by day internationally. The people we educate help build a better future. Established by the department of Food Technology and Nutritional Science (FTNS) in 2004, MBSTU Specialized Schooling and Research provides world-class enlightening openings for science and technology specialists in food research and innovation. FTNSis an international chastisement based on food technology where nutrition is the leading concern. Graduates are of international standard and able to prove themselves in national, trans-national and global food companies, as well as in small to medium food initiatives and agro-processing industries. They can also play an lively role in formulating national and international health and nutrition policies, planning and preventive and socially active programs in the societies. Graduates from this department are expected to be well skilled international standard which is our motto. To meet the growing need of skilled personnel in food segment and to face the challenges of global competition, knowledge about the entire food systems covering food chemistry, biochemistry, food microbiology, food engineering, chemical engineering, food machinery, food handling, safety and quality in one hand and to study the nature and characteristics of foods as well as the nutritional aspects like community nutrition, public health nutrition, applied nutrition in various areas in other hand is decisive. Food technology is the application of such knowledge to process, preserve, and package and distribute safe foods to consumers. The food industry is the largest sector of the manufacturing industry in our countries, and its study enables graduates to charm career involved in areas such as quality and safety assurance, product and process development, regulatory affairs, research, manufacture and packaging, sales and marketing. The department of FTNS follows the modern and up-to-date educational systems which are comparable with those of developed countries in the world. The program is run by a semester system. Each year consists of two semesters and the medium of instruction is English. At present, the department of FTNS is offering a 4 years undergraduate program, 1.5 years (2 semesters for non-thesis and 3 semesters for thesis students) post-graduate (Master’s) program and Ph. D Program (Minimum 6 semesters).
FTNS faculty members provide extensive knowledge and technical expertise to professionals who are eager to boost their context-specific knowledge, or develop new areas of expertise in food innovation and authenticity. As the needs for flexible, multidisciplinary, global education increase, FTNS Professional Education is trying to expand its portfolio of programs and its reach to meet the demand of the society. FTNS is able to offer working professionals and companies short and intensive courses on campus. The department of FTNS is able to offer customized semester and year-long programs. FTNS has currently selected for the Academic Transformation Fund (ATF) as one resourceful department in national outlook for Industry-Academia Collaboration Research under Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project.
